Ardith Louise Schewe, 91, passed away on Wednesday afternoon, February 23, 2011, at St. Johna�(TM)s Lutheran Home, Albert Lea, MN. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 26 at Oakland Lutheran Church, rural Albert Lea. Visitation will be at Bonnerupa�(TM)s Funeral Service from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 25, and one hour before the service at the church. Interment will be at the Oakland Lutheran Cemetery at a later date. Ardith Louise Wittmer was born on September 12, 1919, to Herman and Louise (Stern) Wittmer. She grew up near Armstrong. Ardith was baptized and confirmed at Concordia Lutheran Church Pickerel Lake, rural Albert Lea. She was united in marriage to Robert Schewe on May 4, 1939 at Concordia Lutheran Church Pickerel Lake. In 1946 they moved to the Hayward area where Ardith worked side-by-side with her husband on the farm. Ardith moved to Oak Park Place in 2006 and then to St. Johna�(TM)s Lutheran Home in 2009. Ardith was active in Farmers Union, Hayward Senior Citizens and was a 4-H leader. She was very active in Oakland Lutheran Church activities. Ardith enjoyed traveling, quilting, needlework, gardening, canning, baking, dancing, playing cards and fishing. Her hands were never idle. Her family was the most important thing in the world to her.
Ardith is survived by her sons: Glenn and friend Cheryl, David and Diane, daughter Donna and Butch Newman and daughter-in-law Deloris Schewe; grandchildren, Julie (Keven) Maxa, Gary (fiancAC. Laurie Reed) Schewe, Brian Schewe, Kim Carter, Kevin (Lisa) Schewe, Kris Schewe, Kylin Schewe, Dawn (Chad) Carlson, Scott (Sarah) Schewe and Sara (David) Kalis; and 16 great-grandchildren; brother, Orville Wittmer; sister-in-law, Marvyl Callahan; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert in 1995, son, Jerry in 2009, brother, Harold and sisters-in-law, Marleda Wittmer and Eleanor Wittmer.
