Ardis passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, October 9, 2016. She was 95 years old.
Ardis J. (Peterson) was born on September 16, 1921 to Porter and Bertha (Jensen) Peterson in Garden City, IA. She grew up and graduated from Lake Mills High School. She was united in marriage to Irving Bergo in 1939 at the Silver Lake Lutheran Church. To this union, six children were born. The couple later divorced. On March 25, 1978 she married James Thovson. Mr. Thovson passed away in 1994.
Ardis was a charter member of Grace Lutheran Church. She was active in many forms, but was proud of being a part of Sunday school for more than 30 years. She was a member of the Naeve Hospital Auxiliary, American Red Cross, and a member of the T.O.P.S. Club since 1973. She also received the KOPS award for 35 years of participation.
Ardis was a mother to six children, and kept up a wonderful home. In her free time, she enjoyed baking; peanut brittle being a family favorite. She enjoyed going on walks, walking over 4 miles every day. Ardis enjoyed keeping up with family history, and tried to keep in touch with relatives as much as she could. Ardis' faith was a large part of her life, and she rarely missed church on Sunday. Most of all, Ardis loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She could be described as a caring, outgoing, and loving person, who always put others ahead of herself.
She is preceded in death by both parents; first husband, Irving Bergo; second husband, James Thovson; children, Michael Bergo, Bonnie (Clair) Bottleson, and Larry Bergo; a daughter in-law, Sandra Horton Bergo; and siblings, Wilma Pettet, Merrill Peterson, and Harlan Peterson.
Those left to carry on her legacy include her children, Sandra Bergo Fleming of Albert Lea, Dennis (Susan) Bergo of Raleigh, NC, and David Bergo of Minneapolis, MN; a daughter in-law, Jean Bergo; grandchildren, Jay (Mari), Julie (Dennis), Traci (Deb), Tiffany (Bob), Chad (Shana), Marnie, Lindy (Chris), Whitney (Josh), Amy (Clarence), Bryan, and Jamie (Jake); numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Donna Faulkner of Needles, CA; as well as many other loving relatives and friends.
