Alton Kvenvold passed away on Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at St Mary's Hospital in Rochester. During the week's stay, family and friends had the chance to visit, laugh, and tell stories with him before he passed. He was 71 years old.

Alton was born in Albert Lea on March 5, 1942 to Kermit and Gladys (Iverson) Kvenvold. A Freeborn County resident all of his life, Alton graduated from Albert Lea High School and went on to earn a two year degree in tool and die making at the Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis. On April 24, 1965, he was united in marriage to Sandra Grosland at the First Lutheran Church in Ellendale. They have two children.

Alton was a life member of East Freeborn Lutheran Church where he was baptized and confirmed. He was a trustee; financial secretary; and head usher for many years. In 1962 he began working for King Seeley Thermos Corporation-Queens Division as a tool and die worker and then at the ALMCO Division as a foreman until 1973. After leaving Seeley, he was the service manager, shop foreman, and warranty administrator at Interstate Motor Truck Sales and Service until his retirement in 2004.

Alton was on the committee for the Antique Tractor Display and Tram Ride at the Freeborn County Fair; a member of Heritage Park of North Iowa; on the committee for the Shine Fest Tractor Drive; and enjoyed anything that had to do with tractors. He was a Boy Scout Leader for 35 years and helped 50 Boy Scouts in Troop #219 achieve their Eagle Scout Rank. He was also a committee member and participant in the Relay for Life.

After retirement, Alton enjoyed helping others on their farms; fixing engines; and solving the world's problems with his coffee buddies. He was an influential man who touched the lives of many people around him.

He is survived by his wife Sandy (Grosland); son, Travis Kvenvold of Albert Lea; daughter, Camille Kvenvold of St. Louis Park, MN; brothers: Terry (Carol) Kvenvold of Albert Lea; Stevan (Sandy) Kvenvold of Rochester, MN; sisters: Kathy (Cliff) DeYoung of Oak Park, CA; Ramona Richter (Lynn O'Daffer) of Albert Lea; Gayle (Chuck) Gould of Minneapolis, MN; Joanne (George) Griffin of Spring Grove, MN; many special nieces and nephews; other loving relatives; godchildren; Troop 219 members and friends.

Alton was preceded in death by his parents, Kermit and Gladys; godson Michael Hogen; father and mother-in-law, Elmer and Alice Grosland; and brothers-in-law Arnie Grosland and Kermit Grosland.
