Funeral services for Altine J. Hengesteg, formerly of Glenville, will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at First Lutheran Church, Glenville. The Reverend Kent Otterman will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Glenville.
Altine passed away on Monday, March 28, 2016 at Oak Park Place, Albert Lea. She was 92 years old.
Altine was born on November 30, 1923 in rural Glenville, the daughter of James Jr. and Selma (Engen) Vanek. She was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Glenville where she was a life-long member. She attended elementary school in Glenville and high school in Albert Lea. As a young woman, she worked at American Gas and J.C. Penney. She was a house wife most of her life and kept a lovely home. She loved to refinish old furniture, which her family now treasures. Altine loved bargain shopping and instilled in her children that desire to find a "bargain!"
Altine is survived by her daughter, Dianne Adams Nelsen Champagne and husband Bob of Theriot, LA; son Mark Hengesteg and wife Toni of Montgomery, TX; four grandchildren, Kristen Nelsen Brooks and husband Bill of Stewart, MN, Kevin Nelsen and wife Misty of Glenville, David Hengesteg and wife Heather of Tomball, TX, and Kathryn Hengesteg Garwood and husband Russ of Seattle, WA; eight great-grandchildren, Drew Brooks of Burnsville, Jamie Brooks of Minneapolis, Meagan Nelsen of Marshall, MN, Madison, Kaylee and Kole Nelsen of Glenville, and Ben and Taryn Hengesteg of Tomball, TX; sister, Delores Williamson of Owatonna; sisters-in-law, Arlene Lee of Albert Lea, Marian Hengesteg of Des Moines, IA; as well as several nieces, nephews and other loving relatives.
Altine was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Henry Adams Jr in 1946 and Norance Hengesteg in 2010; son-in-law, Gary Nelsen; sisters-in-law Edna Dishon and Elnora Hengesteg; brothers-in-law Harold Williamson, Cecil Dishon, Andy Hengesteg, and Simon Lee.
