Funeral services for Alfred Ray Schlarbaum will be held on Sunday, March 5, 2017 at 4:00 p.m. with visitation 1 hour prior to service at Bonnerup Funeral Home, 2210 E. Main St. in Albert Lea MN. Pastor Mike Gerhardt will officiate. Interment will take place at Hillcrest Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the Albert Lea Area Veteran's Organizations.
Alfred was born January 4, 1922 in Nimrod, MN to Edwin and Elizabeth Schlarbaum, Alfred passed away February 27, 2017 at the age of 95 in Minneapolis, MN. He and his family were residents of Albert Lea for 64 years. Alfred was married to Joyce Lavonne Morfitt in 1945 and had 5 children with her and 1 child from a previous marriage. He served his country in the United States Navy from 1944 until his honorable discharge in 1945.He worked for many years for Dickema Construction and was an over the road truck driver until he was injured in 1976. In retirement Alfred and Joyce enjoyed many winters in Arizona and Florida. In his free time Alfred loved spending time with his family, he especially loved his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. He was an enthusiast pool player and bowler and loved playing croquet at family gatherings.
Alfred is survived by daughters Karen R. Miner (Duane), Kathy M. Brekke (Dale), Linda Tuttle-Olson (Steve), Patricia J. Amundson (Darrel) and sons David R. Schlarbaum (Geri) and Robert Mason. Alfred is also survived by grandchildren Robert Brekke (Deanna), Pamela Folven (Ray), Tamela Becker (Frank), Mark Tuttle (Brenda), Kristen Jensen (Angel), Leah Bjorklund (Lee), Michelle Anthony (Kevin), Elizabeth Watsula (Steve), Jason Amundson (Nicole), Christopher Amundson (Rachel), Emily Menke, Erin Schlarbaum (River) and brother-in-law Derald Morfitt. Alfred has 24 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren with 2 more arriving in May. Alfred was preceded in death by his wife Joyce of 49 years, his parents, his son-in-law Steve Tuttle, 4 sisters, Bonnie, Pearl, Blanche and Jesse, his in-laws Henry and Sadie Morfitt and 3 sisters-in-laws.
