Private memorial services for Donna J. Ferguson will be held at St. Peter Lutheran Church in New Richland, MN, with Rev. Scott Williams officiating. Burial will follow at St. Peter Cemetery. Donna passed away on Tuesday, May 26, 2020 at the New Richland Care Center. She was 84 years old.
Donna JoAnne (Hill) Ferguson was born on March 11, 1936 in Eagle Grove, IA to parents James G. and Lucille L. (Lamb) Hill. She graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1954. She began her career teaching Elementary School in Lu Verne, IA, where she would meet her future husband. On July 23, 1960, she was united in marriage to James Robert Ferguson in Blue Earth, MN. The couple moved the family to New Richland in 1967.
Donna worked for E.F. Johnson’s in Waseca for 28 years. When she wasn’t working, Donna never had a problem finding things to do! Whether she was bowling, gardening, canning, doing puzzles, or playing dominos with her best friends, Donna was always having fun. It was hard to catch Donna without a smile on her face. She was fun-loving, kind, and a little bit sassy! Conversation and fellowship were always important to Donna, and you never left her house hungry. She was a mother figure to everybody, inheriting the nickname “Ma Fergy” Donna had an innate ability to listen to anybody that needed an ear.
She is preceded in death by both parents, James and Lucille Hill; husband, James Ferguson Sr.; son, James Ferguson Jr.; daughter, Lora (Bob) Butcher; and siblings, James Hill and Bonnie Brayton.
Those left to carry on her legacy include her children, Loretta “Jonnie” Schmidt, Linda (Dean) Schneider, Tom Ferguson, Denise (Don) Schulenberg and Mary (Rod) Meyer; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren; siblings, Dolly Myers, Robert (Loretta) Hill, and Bruce (Marilyn) Hill; a sister in-law, Sylvia Hawley; as well as many loving nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
